about

INFINITE APE has always been a shape-shifting, collaborative entity. All three album releases so far have featured different lineups, but everyone involved remains somehow connected – musically, geographically, or through other projects.

This is the second release to feature Danish percussionist Christian Windfeld, and the first to pair Reuben Lewis and Tony Hicks, two remarkably inventive improvisers.

This album came about as part of a whirlwind fortnight in January 2016, involving performances and recording in Melbourne, a weekend at MONA in Hobart, and a collaboration on Bruny Island with brilliant guitarist Julius Schwing.

Some of the sounds contained on this album reflect that we’re living and working in an increasingly disturbing social environment, and that we’re highly interconnected with widespread confusion and pain, even though we might not always be actively conscious to it.

At the same time, this ensemble has long felt like a meeting place, bringing together collaborators who follow wildly varying individual paths. Each time Infinite Ape performs together it feels like we are able to encompass more and more of what each player can offer.

Thanks to Reuben, Tony and Christian for your friendship, commitment and creativity, and thanks to everyone who facilitated our 2016 performances and tour: Megan Evans, Frank Pearce, Leo Kavanagh & Marie Schoenmaker, Brian Ritchie & Martin Blackwell, Simon Spain & Victoria Ryle, Julius Schwing.
